Sharon's Story

I first met Jonathan Livingston Seagull through his namesake, Jonathan Livingston Pigeon, and he lived in the eves above my apartment with his family. He was taught to believe in his beauty, talents and purpose in the world. It was only after leaving the nest, and finding himself exposed to the messages of a confused and judgmental society that he started to believe he was something else. At first he pushed back against the titles of "Garbage Bird" and "Rat with wings" and defended his beauty, until the day came that he succumbed, believed it, and lost his possibility. The tar from the streets attached itself to the iridescent feathers on his body and it became difficult to fly.
