Thomas's Story

I first came across the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull in the form of the motion picture as a nineteen year old young man from Ireland doing voluntary work for my Church in England. I was extremely moved by what I was hearing, seeing and feeling. I was lifted outside of myself and deeply touched by what I felt was a supremely simple and yet profoundly deep message - that this beautiful gift of life is a precious treasure to be valued, enjoyed and experienced with richness.

I felt motivated to raise my personal vision of what was possible in my life. Having grown up in material poverty, family difficulty and emotional challenge it was hard for me to believe that life could be wonderfully good for me personally. However, seeing the movie had an impact on me that would never be forgotten. Years later I came across the book itself - and the movie again - and as I read and watched I found myself even more deeply moved this time around. This powerful story has been a message of hope, strength, beauty, renewal and peace for me for many years. Often, when I have felt myself in deep waters, facing challenges of many kinds and degrees, I have turned to this story to remind myself that life is good and beautiful.

I love the theme of flying, learning, growing and sharing that this story promotes. What a better world this would be if everyone could read this story and sense the personal truth that it contains for each and every one of us. Life really is for living. Life is beautiful and good. Thanks to Jonathan for reminding us and teaching us that there is so much more to life than money, fighting and power etc. At 43 years of age I have found that the truth is that we are all capable of being more and doing more than we ever imagined. Like others on this website I am thrilled that I have shared the message of Jonathan with my close family and friends. How grateful I am for that. Thanks to Richard Bach for having the courage and foresight to share this hope restoring and life affirming story with a world in such desperate need of its message. Thank you so very much and God Bless
