Julia's Story

I met Jonathan Livingston seagull in 1976... In the pages of your wonderful book. I was a young aspiring international runner... My mother was soon to die, just as I was learning to 'fly on land'... I read your book and it spoke to me then... I had just started at 6th form college and was asked to read something for the first assembly... I chose to read the passage that spoke to me the most as a runner learning to break free and run like the wind; and to understand loss and the freedom it gave me too. I stood up and read to the whole college... 'Your whole body, from wingtip to wingtip is nothing more than thought in a form you can see, break the chains of your thought and you break the chains of your body too...' I also read the part where Fletch says to Jonathan "Are you saying I can fly" and Jonathan says "I say you are free"... Forty years on and i am still learning to 'fly on land' and I am still inspired by Jonathan.. Thank you
